About Adithya

Here and Now

11 years into his musical journey, Adithya aims to break musical and cultural boundaries, cultivating a deeper meaning behind his sound. He currently is pursuing his master's in music at NYU Steinhardt, studying with Dezron Douglas, Billy Drewes, Alan Ferber, Tony Moreno, Tivon Pennicott, Rich Perry, Dave Pietro,  Mike Richmond, and Brad Shepik. Outside of class, Adithya is grateful to be an adjunct instructor for pop and jazz saxophone at NYU Steinhardt. On top of these commitments, Adithya is active on the New York jazz scene performing at venues and jam sessions around the city.

While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Kris Allen, Gregg August, Mike Kolodny, and Devesh Chandra provided inspiration and mentorship at the highest level at Williams College. In addition to playing in many ensembles at Williams (jazz ensembles, the Zambezi marimba band, Vive Latin American music ensemble, Balinese Gamelan ensemble, and house party bands), Adithya also performed regularly as a sideman in the Berkshires with guitarist Michael Junkins and Wingspan, a group made up of Williams alumni. Adding to his credentials as a sideman, Adithya is also proud to be a member of the Kevin Du Trio which has been recognized for its outstanding work by Downbeat Magazine's Student Music Awards.

As a composer and bandleader, Adithya Vaidhyan has brought together eclectic combinations of musicians to create a unique group configurations of the trio, quartet, and quintet format. The Adithya Vaidhyan Quartet annually makes a pilgrimage to the Sharp 9 Gallery in Durham and can be found at jam sessions in and around the Triangle. The Adithya Vaidhyan Trio and Adithya Vaidhyan Quintet can be heard in NYC such as Fiction Bar, the Williamsburg Music Center, and at various other local venues.

The compositions presented at these performances reflect Adithya's respect for the tradition of the music, yet also present some unexpected twists and turns that stem from his unique identity of expression. Adithya is honored to have been recognized by ASCAP for his compositions in the 2025 Herb Albert Young Jazz Composer Awards and by the Williams College Music Department who awarded him the prestigeous Hubbard Hutchinson Fellowship.

Adithya is also grateful to be associated with the Litchfield Jazz Camp for the past 4 years. While working at this fabled  jazz camp, Adithya has had the opportunity to work and perform with the likes of Dave Ballou, Paul Bollenback, Don Braden, Luques Curtis, Mike DiRubbo, Joe Dyson, Orrin Evans, Jimmy Greene, Andrew Hadro, Russ Johnson, Cailey O'Doherty,  Albert Rivera, and Matt Wilson.
